Legal matters can sometimes involve complex mental health and emotional concerns. At H.O.P.E. Professional Counseling, we provide clinical documentation, diagnostic assessments, consultation, and other court-related services when appropriate and within the scope of the treating clinician.
Our role is to provide accurate, clinically appropriate information based on our professional relationship, assessments, and available documentation. We do not determine legal outcomes or advocate for a particular court decision.
Court letters may be requested to provide relevant clinical information for attorneys, courts, or other authorized parties. Depending on the circumstances and the clinician's role, documentation may include:
Clinical Information — Relevant information regarding a client's treatment, symptoms, diagnosis, progress, or clinical concerns.
Diagnostic Assessments — Documentation of findings obtained through an appropriate clinical assessment.
Treatment Information — Confirmation of participation in treatment and clinically appropriate information regarding treatment goals or progress.
Clinical Recommendations — Treatment-related recommendations when appropriate and supported by the clinician's assessment.
Impact of Trauma or Mental Health Concerns — Clinical information regarding how reported experiences may be affecting a client's mental and emotional well-being.
A valid Release of Information (ROI) may be required before H.O.P.E. can communicate with attorneys, courts, or other third parties.
When a current client's mental health treatment becomes relevant to a custody or family court matter, the treating clinician may provide appropriate clinical information within the boundaries of their professional role.
H.O.P.E. clinicians do not make recommendations regarding child custody or determine which parent should receive custody. Treatment and diagnostic services should not be interpreted as a custody evaluation.
When appropriate, H.O.P.E. may communicate with attorneys or other authorized professionals regarding the clinical aspects of a client's care.
Consultation may include relevant treatment information, clinical observations, diagnostic information, or treatment recommendations when appropriate and authorized by the client.
Availability and the extent of consultation will depend on the circumstances of the case, applicable confidentiality requirements, and the clinician's professional role.
